I just loved the Tent London trade exhibition, last week – yet again we were treated to stand after stand of gorgeousness. It was hard to pick a favourite product but I think the Venus Of Cupertino iPad Charger has to get my personal first prize.

Venus is hand-cast in museum-quality resin and is a fully functional iPad docking station. Her hands gently guide the iPad onto a charger, inconspicuously located in her midriff. A USB cable emerges from several interestingly located points!

The sculpture fits any standard USB port or Apple power adapter for syncing or charging. The charging cable and connector are fully changeable in order to future-proof the docking station against updates to Apple’s iPad connectors. Extra bonus points for ensuring the device is adaptable for future generation iPads!

The three part process consists of an adhesive, a technical fabric and a finishing process allowing large scale reproductions of a particular design or photo on outdoor surfaces.

I have always loved the idea of playing with the gap between internal space and outdoor spaces, making them coherent with each other. Wall & Dećo give a new dimension to outdoor spaces and I’m all for it in the right space!

I just can’t get enough of the current trend of turning industrially intended items into usable residential pieces. Container homes take the whole idea a step further and I think they work beautifully.

This 2600 sq ft home, by Debbie Glassberg, was formed using five shipping containers as the base for the structure. The history of the containers somehow allows an honest, down to earth feel that wouldn’t always be possible with a new build. The property has been designed using eco-friendly materials and appliances and even boasts a delightful edible garden on the roof!

What do you think – could you live in one?

I’ve just had my birthday and I thought I’d share my favourite gift with you.

This gorgeous book was handmade by Central St Martins student Tom Hamilton (he is my son, so I confess to being a little biased!). Tom hand-cut the letters, stuck them onto a book board and covered the board with a soft grey paper. He then burnished around the letters, using a book bone, allowing the 3D affect to come through. He then handstitched the book together using a Japanese binding technique.

I have a bit of a thing for anything typographical, so I just love it!
