Key spring trends for your home

Jo Hamilton

Spring is always an exciting time of year for me — the sun appears from nowhere, like a lost love and brings with it hope and anticipation for the long stretch of summer ahead. My designer head gets swept along and all at once I’m buzzing with inspiration and ideas for the year ahead. Part of my job is to be constantly aware of emerging trends and this year, the up-and-coming trends are bigger, better, more exciting than ever before. These are my top three.

Six heavenly stairways

Jo Hamilton

The staircase is often viewed as a purely functional, transitional space in the home, sadly. Its huge potential to provide a bold backdrop is time and again overshadowed by its utilitarian purpose. But the possibilities are endless.

Highlights from London Design Week 2016

Jo Hamilton

I get the same feeling of excited anticipation for London Design Week every year. Heading west along Kings Road towards Chelsea Harbour, at first the interior design showrooms are few and far between, but before long it seems that every shop window is showing some exciting new fabric or innovative new furniture piece that makes my heart beat just that little bit faster.

London Design Week buzz

Jo Hamilton

One of the things I absolutely love about living in London is the design buzz. It feels something exciting is happening all the time — last week it was the Affordable Art Fair and this week it’s headfirst into London Design Week.

The art fair is back in town

Jo Hamilton

You may have noticed that I’ve not updated my blog much recently; not at all, in fact, for six months. If you had been waiting to hear from me, I can only say sorry — but I’ve been very busy with lots of exciting projects and plans that I’ll update you on over the next few weeks (and one involves my new website that I’m so excited about I just have to give it this brief little mention).

Make a statement of your stairs

Jo Hamilton

I bet when you are thinking about decorating your home the staircase is often the last thing on the list. Don’t neglect this space, it’s not a no-man’s land, and is often the first thing the eye meets when you enter a property.

It's a Brompton life for me

Jo Hamilton

I’ve just taken delivery of my new London wheels. A city classic, the small and portable Brompton Bike. Now riding it in high heels is optional, but regardless of shoe choice there is such a lot that I am loving about my new toy.

July's colour fix

Jo Hamilton

Well, it is holiday season and a favourite spot of mine is Santorini. One of the Cyclades islands in the Aegean Sea, it was once devastated by a volcanic eruption in the 16th Century, forever shaping its rugged landscape and villages where white washed, cubist houses now cling to cliffs surrounded by spotless marine blue waters and deep blue skies. Oh get me on a plane now!

Head-turning affordable art

Jo Hamilton

I popped into the Affordable Art Fair in Hampstead this month. This established event is now attended by 110 galleries exhibiting a huge array of contemporary art to get the imagination going. I loved the mix of established names alongside emerging stars of tomorrow, showcasing everything from paintings to photographs and sculpture to original prints.

Put your personality into your living room

Jo Hamilton

At the moment my style is to make sure living areas are comfortable and relaxed. Clean, minimalist schemes may suit some but I think the effect can sometimes be cold and unwelcoming. I prefer a living room to be textured and toned to feel homely and reflect the personality of the home’s owner.

A bath to drift away in

Jo Hamilton

I recently stumbled across this incredible hammock inspired vessel bath from Splinter Works. The company is a collaboration of Miles Hartwell and Matt Withington, who's mission since forming in 2009 is to create sculptural furniture that is engaging and inspiring.
