I’ve just taken delivery of my new London wheels. A city classic, the small and portable Brompton Bike. Now riding it in high heels is optional, but regardless of shoe choice there is such a lot that I am loving about my new toy.
Firstly, it looks great, and its style is in no way compromised by its more practical folding features.
This was the first folding bike of its time and was totally unique when it was first released in 1976…super clever, and managing director Will Butler-Adams went on to receive an OBE.
I was wondering if it might be a bit cumbersome to fold but it is really easy, even for me. I originally got the bike to get to and from the gym but am starting to use it to go everywhere!
Call me crazy, but once I’ve donned my helmet and hit the roads I feel a bit like a 1960s, uber cool, Vespa-riding Italian chic. The helmet model I chose was designed in Vancouver, but inspired by both Swedish and Italian design.
Throw in the stylish, weatherproof, and obviously colour co-ordinated bag, and I’m off.
It really is a better way to see London rather than cooped up on the underground or in a car. It opens your eyes to this great City, and I’m spotting little bits of architecture and pretty gardens I’ve never noticed before.
